Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin expects the meeting of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and U.S. President Donald Trump to take place in the near future.
He said this at a news briefing, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"We are working at the meeting. I think it will take place in the near future. One of important points of the preparations for the meeting - I have mentioned this - is a format where the United States will join the efforts and how to exert pressure on Russia for implementation of the Minsk agreements. Now this is in the process of discussions and in the near future we and our friends in the Normandy Format will have answers to these questions," he said.
He says it is not so important who - Russian President Vladimir Putin or President Petro Poroshenko - will meet with President Donald Trump earlier, as the negotiations between the United States and the Russian Federation are different and the agenda is wider as it includes negotiations on Syria.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Foreign Minister Klimkin does not rule out involvement of the United States in the Normandy Format (Ukraine, Germany, France, and the Russian Federation).
