Member of the European Parliament Rebecca Harms, co-chair of the faction Greens/European Free Alliance, says the Council of the European Union is eyeing an option of increasing the period for sanctions against Russia from six months to one year.
She announced this at a press conference, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"There are discussions in the European Union regarding the sanctions. We consider it wrong that each six months we are revising them. We think the period should be extended to at least one year without revision," she said.
MEP Harms says sanctions won't be lifted from Russia before de-occupation of Crimea and end of the armed conflict in Donbas.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on March 13, the Council of the European Union prolonged its sanctions against 150 individuals and 37 legal entities involved in breaching territorial integrity of Ukraine until September 15, 2017.
