First Deputy Chair of the National Bank of Ukraine Yakiv Smolii will start his work as the NBU's acting chair since May 11.
Press service of the NBU has said this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Wednesday, May 10, is the last day of work of the NBU's Chairperson Valeriya Hontareva.
Hontareva informed of her resignation a month ago.
Under the current law (Article 18 of the law On National Bank of Ukraine), a decision about resignation of the National Bank's chairperson is taken by the President with subsequent approval by the Verkhovna Rada.
Accordingly, Smolii will be exerting duties of chairperson of the National Bank until appointment of its new chair.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on April 10 Hontareva announced her intention to resign starting from May 10.
She already signed her resignation statement and waits for the President to approve it at the earliest possible time.
Later the news appeared that after May holidays Hontareva plans to go on a long vacation.
