Migration Service Confirms Presidential Decree Depriving MP Artemenko Of Ukrainian Citizenship

The State Migration Service of Ukraine has confirmed a presidential decree signed by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko depriving independent MP Andrii Artemenko of Ukrainian citizenship.

The press service of the Migration Service announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The Migration Service assesses the presidential decree as absolutely lawful, since MP Artemenko has citizenship of a foreign country.

The statement reads that the Migration Service writes and sends motions to deprive persons of Ukrainian citizenship on the ground of documents confirming foreign citizenship of persons.

The statement reads that 323 persons were deprived Ukrainian citizenship by presidential decrees in the 2012-2016 period.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Solidarity Bloc of Petro Poroshenko Iryna Friz states that stripping by President Poroshenko of MP Artemenko of Ukrainian citizenship automatically entails cancellation of his MP mandate making respective vote at the Parliament needless.

On February 27, 2017, MP Artemenko confirmed having a Canada's passport.

The Presidential Decree has deprived MP Andrii Artemenko and former acting deputy chairperson of the Odesa Regional State Administration Sasha Borovyk of the Ukrainian citizenship.
