Poroshenko Instructs Border Guards To Ensure No Queues At Border In Connection With Expected Visa-Free Regime With EU From June 11

President Petro Poroshenko has instructed the State Border Service to ensure that there are no queues at the border in connection with the expected granting of visa-free travel to the European Union to Ukrainian citizens on June 11.

Poroshenko announced this during a visit to the State Border Service's main communication, automation, and information security center, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Poroshenko added that he would order reduction of the cost of transport links with Europe, particularly by launching European low-cost airlines to Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the European Parliament approved the granting of visa-free travel to the European Union for citizens of Ukraine on April 6.

The Committee of Permanent Representatives in the European Union (COREPER) approved the inclusion of Ukraine on the list of third countries that do not need visas on April 26.

The next step in the procedure for granting visa-free travel to the European Union to citizens of Ukraine is a vote on the relevant draft law by the Council of the European Union, which is tentatively scheduled for May 11.

After that, the decision will be signed (May 17) and published in the European Union's official journal (May 22).

The visa-free regime will enter into force 20 days after its publication (approximately on June 11).
