The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SACPO) has appealed to the Kyiv Court of Appeal against the Solomianskyi District Court of Kyiv's decision to refuse to authorize arrest of former member of parliament Mykola Martynenko and allow 18 members of the parliament, Minister of Youth and Sports Ihor Zhdanov, and the Central Election Commission's Deputy Chairman Andrii Mahera to stand surety for him.

The press service of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News reports.

The appeal was filed on Wednesday, April 26.

According to the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, Nazar Kholodnytskyi, from a legal point of view, the court's decision is incommensurate to the gravity of the crime committed or the risks stated in the petition.

According to Kholodnytskyi, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office is demanding that the appeal court overturn the court of first instance's decision, and authorize detention of the suspect for 60 days, and set bail at UAH 300 million.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the court earlier refused to sanction arrest of Martynenko and allowed members of parliament, Zhdanov, and Mahera to stand surety for him.
