OSCE Mission Resumes Patrols In Donbas

Donbas, OSCE, OSCE SMM, patrols

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (OSCE SMM) has resumed patrols in Donbas.

The mission announced this in a statement on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to the statement, the patrols are conducted with some restrictions due to the ongoing assessment of the incident involving the blowing up of the mission’s car by a mine on April 23.

“The SMM remains committed to fulfilling its mandate and contributing to bringing peace to the people of Ukraine including through monitoring and reporting on the security situation,” the statement said.

In order to fulfill this task, the mission needs safe, secure, and unconditional access for SMM monitors, the statement added.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the OSCE has called for a criminal investigation into the explosion that damaged a vehicle belonging to its Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine in Luhansk region on April 23.

One citizen of the United States was killed and two observers (citizens of Germany and the Czech Republic) were injured as a result of the explosion.

The Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council’s Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov has blamed Russia for the death of the OSCE mission observer in Luhansk region.
