NBU Governor: Ukraine Facing Threat Of Losing Support From International Donors

NBU Governor: Ukraine Facing Threat Of Losing Support From International Donors

Valeria Hontareva, the Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, says Ukraine is facing a threat of losing support from international donors.

She gave the position during the second session of the NBU Council, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Ukraine is facing a threat of losing the support of international organizations. We have corrected out forex reserves outlook three times this year," she said.

The current forecast of the National Bank of Ukraine on its forex reserves stands USD 17.5 billion, but it includes EUR 600 million from the European Union and USD 1.3 billion from the International Monetary Fund.

"We are facing very big risks that we will not get this tranche this year. And we will have to correct our outlook again," she said.

According to the forecast, Ukraine will get the fourth tranche of the International Monetary Fund and will have to pay USD 2.5 billion of debts, including USD 1 billion to the International Monetary Fund.

"And we will start losing the forex reserves," she noted.

NBU Governor Hontareva blamed the Verkhovna Rada for the absence of political will to carry out decisive structural reforms.

She said some of the reforms (the pension reform, the law on the land market, and others) have been promised to international donors.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on Thursday the Council of the National Bank of Ukraine will give its assessment of the work of the regulator in 2015 and nine months of 2016 and will endorse the order of work at the principles of the monetary policies for 2017.
