Brussels To Host Ukraine - EU Summit Today

Brussels, Belgium, will host the 18th summit Ukraine - the European Union on Thursday, November 24.

According to the agenda of the summit, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, European Council President Donald Tusk, and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will meet at 12.00 (Kyiv time). Their press conference is scheduled to start at 02.30 p.m. (Kyiv time).

During the Ukraine - the European Union summit the sides will sign a memo between Ukraine and the European Union on strategic partnership in the energy sector, and an agreement with the European Police Office about exchange of information.

There will be signing of agreements on the European Union's financial assistance to Ukraine's reforms: EUR 15 million for backing the program on fighting corruption and EUR 104 million for the reform of the state management.

Decisions are expected during the summit regarding the process of completion of the ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union and regarding visa liberalization for Ukraine.

There will be discussion of the implementation of the Minsk agreements and sanctions of the European Union against Russia.

There will be a business forum within the summit. Ukraine will present a number of investment projects.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President Petro Poroshenko said the Netherlands would continue consultations on ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union although November 1 was the deadline for such consultations following the referendum in the Netherlands.

The Committee of Permanent Representatives in the European Union (COREPER) has approved commencement of negotiations between the EU Council and the European Parliament on liberalization of the EU's visa regime for Ukrainian citizens.

At the same time, the EU Council takes the view that visa liberalization for Ukraine should enter into force at the same time as the new suspension mechanism enters into force.
