The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade reckons that Ukraine will rank in the top 30 on the World Bank’s Doing Business 2018 index.

First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Maksym Nefiodov said this during a Cabinet of Ministers session. Ukrainian News Agency reports.

In his words. all this will be possible thanks to the legislative initiative meant to resolve a number of issues in deregulation and protection of investors’ rights.

What concerns protection of investors rights. they will initiate protection of minority shareholders’ interests.

“What concerns protection of the rights of minority shareholders – we want to achieve a considerable improvement from rank 70 to 9 [on this component] and raise to the top 10.” Nefiodov underscored.

It is planned. inter alia. to toughen responsibility of majority shareholders for the abuse of their rights.

It is also planned to simplify the registration of VAT payer by newly established legal entities.

They will bring in this bill to the Cabinet of Ministers for consideration in the coming weeks.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported. Ukraine rose from rank 83 to 80 among 190 countries in Doing Business 2017.

The World Bank publishes the ranking every year.
