Obama, Leaders Of European Union Agree To Prolong Sanctions Against Russia

President of the United States Barack Obama and leaders of the member states of the European Union agree that it is necessary to prolong the sanctions against the Russian Federation.

AFP news agency reports this, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

On November 18, Berlin (Germany) hosted a meeting with participation of President of the United States Barack Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President of France Francois Hollande, British Prime Minister Theresa May, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.

The leaders of the EU countries and the President of the United States arrived at a position that the sanctions against Russia will be prolonged until implementation of the Minsk agreements.

They also discussed the importance of further cooperation in the frames of multilateral institutions, including the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President of the United States Barack Obama hopes that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will support the prolongation of sanctions against Russia for the conflict in Donbas.
