NBU Observes Increased Risk Of Non-Disbursement Of USD 1.3 Billion Tranche By IMF In 2016

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) observes an increased risk of non-disbursement of the USD 1.3 billion tranche by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before the yearend.

NBU Deputy Governor Oleh Churii said this at Espreso TV, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

«The risks of non-receipt of the tranche have grown. Time is short, the IMF needs to hold a Board meeting before the end of the year. But not so many working days have left in December. There are New Year holidays in Europe and America,» he said.

On the other hand, Churii stressed, adoption of the national budget for 2017 may be a pacing factor.

The earlier it is passed the quicker would be set the date for the meeting of the IMF Executive Board on Ukraine.

The pension reform remains one of the key problems Ukraine must solve to continue the cooperation with the Fund, the Deputy Governor added.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the IMF mission was working in Ukraine from November 3 to 18.

In September, the IMF approved disbursement of a USD 1 billion tranche to Ukraine.

In its updated Memorandum of Cooperation with the IMF, Ukraine pledged to implement land reform and adopt a law that provides for gradually raising the retirement age for citizens.

In early October, the parliament extended the moratorium on sale of agricultural land by one year until January 1, 2018.

The NBU previously expected the IMF to disburse a USD 1.3 billion tranche to Ukraine.
