EU Delegation Head Mingarelli Confident EU Will Introduce Visa-Free Travel For Ukrainians Soon

The head of the European Union's delegation to Ukraine, Hugues Mingarelli, is confident that visa-free travel to the European Union will be introduced for Ukrainian citizens in the near future.

Mingarelli announced this at the conference "Ukraine-EU Relations: a Test of Strength," Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"The European Commission thought a few months ago that the EU should give Ukraine visa-free regime, and since then the European Parliament and the EU Council have been discussing the suspension mechanism that they want to include in all agreements regarding facilitation of visa-free regime, not only for Ukraine but also for all third countries. A little bit of time is needed for this. Nobody is saying that this requires 5-10-15 years. Ukraine will be granted a visa-free regime soon," said Mingarelli.

At the same time, he did not specify the period of adoption of all the decisions related to the visa-free regime.

In addition, Mingarelli said that all the anti-corruption and judicial reforms were implemented not because of the visa-free regime but to improve the quality of life of Ukrainian citizens.

According to him, all the processes related to visa liberalization have already had a positive impact on the daily lives of Ukrainians.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze has said that the European Union may liberalize its visa procedures for Ukrainian citizens before the end of 2016.
