European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn has said that Ukraine has fulfilled all the conditions for allowing Ukrainian citizens visa-free travel to the European Union. The press service of President Petro Poroshenko announced this in a statement after a telephone conversation between Poroshenko and Khan, Ukrainian News Agency reports. "The two sides discussed a number of topical issues on the Ukraine-EU agenda, particularly introduction of a visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens. The EU commissioner once again stressed that Ukraine has fulfilled all the criteria and that the European Union should fulfill its commitments in the coming weeks," the statement said. According to the statement, Poroshenko and Khan agreed to intensify their efforts to ensure proper organization of a Ukraine-EU summit in Brussels on November 24, 2016. Poroshenko expressed gratitude for the support for Ukraine that European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker expressed in their welcome letter to United States president-elect Donald Trump. Poroshenko and Khan noted the importance of maintaining trans-Atlantic unity and readiness to cooperate closely with the new United States presidential administration in helping Ukraine to counter Russian aggression. As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Poroshenko expects the European Union to consider a mechanism for suspending the visa-free regime before the November 24 Ukraine-EU summit.
