Poroshenko Hoping For U.S. Assistance In Fight Against Russian Aggression

President Petro Poroshenko hopes for the assistance of the United States in fight against the Russian aggression.

Press service of the President of Ukraine said this in a statement, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to the report, Poroshenko had a meeting with Ambassador of the United States to Ukraine Marie L. Yovanovitch.

"I sincerely congratulate Donald Trump on being elected new President of the United States and friendly American people on democratic voting," the President said at the meeting with the U.S. Ambassador.

The President of Ukraine noted that along with the victory in the United States, the new President takes all the responsibility for the global leadership of the United States in the democratic world.

Poroshenko said he appreciates support of American political forces for Ukraine.

The President expressed hope for further support for Ukraine and assistance in fighting against the Russian aggression and in struggling for freedom and independence, restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state.

The President of Ukraine also hopes for the U.S. assistance in implementation of large-scale reforms in different spheres starting from the fight against corruption, reformation of the energy sector, consolidation of supremacy of law, implementation of the constitutional amendments on justice, reformation of the state sector, defense and security.

Petro Poroshenko noted that the said elements of Ukrainian-American cooperation and resolute support for enhancement of international solidarity are destined to be fundamental within strategic partnership.

According to the report, the President also counts on resumption of work of the Strategic Partnership Commission at the earliest possible time.

Poroshenko also congratulated members of the Ukrainian caucus on election to the Senate of the United States, which According to the President, is likely to further effectively cooperate with the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The President also thanked Ambassador Yovanovitch for her statement on prolongation of anti-Russian sanctions in December.

Petro Poroshenko welcomed President elect Donald Trump to Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy, considers that Donald Trump's victory in the presidential election in the United States opens new opportunities for Ukraine.

Republican Party Candidate Donald Trump has won the 58th presidential election in the United States of America.

He won 56,797,101 votes (48%).

His rival, Democrat Hilary Clinton, received 218 Electoral Votes (47%, 55,741,659 voters), with 86% votes tallied.

Trump, 70, is a businessman and politician. He owns a construction conglomerate Trump Organization and Trump Entertainment Resorts, a gambling and hotel company.
