EU Council Imposes Sanctions Against Six Russian MPs Elected In Crimea

The Council of the European Union has added six members of the State Duma of Russia elected in the Crimea annexed by Russia to the list of people and entities involved in activities against the territorial integrity of Ukraine and subject to sanctions.

The resolution of the Council of the European Union has been published in the official magazine of the European Union, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

In particular, the Council of the European Union has added to the list the following members of the State Duma: Ruslan Balbek, Konstantin Bakharev, Dmitry Belik, Andrei Kozenko, Scetlana Savchenko, and Pavel Shperov.

Eight deputies were elected to the State Duma of Russia in the Crimea in September. Natalia Poklonskaya and Mikhail Sheremet were included in the list in 2014 after the annexation of the Crimea by Russia.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the European Union will not recognize the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Crimea annexed by Russia.

The EU Council has extended sanctions against 146 people and 37 legal entities involved in actions against the territorial integrity of Ukraine till 15 March 2017.
