European Parliament’s President Schulz Promises To Make Every Effort To Ratify EU-Ukraine Association Agreement

The European Parliament’s President Martin Schulz has promised to make every effort to ensure ratification of the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.

The press service of Kyiv’s mayor and chairman of the Kyiv municipal administration Vitali Klitschko announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to the statement, Klitschko presented the "European of the Year" award to the European Parliament’s President Martin Schulz during the "Night of Publishers" ceremony in Berlin (Germany).

During the award ceremony, Schultz said that some European officials were deliberately sabotaging the ratification of the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.

"Some populists in Europe are now sabotaging the ratification of the association and claiming that it is too early for Ukrainians to go to Europe," said Schultz.

According to the statement, he apologized for this and promised to make every effort to ensure that Ukraine becomes "part of the European family."

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Hungary has criticized the Netherlands for blocking introduction of the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.

President Petro Poroshenko insisting on finding a mutually beneficial solution with the Netherlands to unblock Dutch ratification of the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.
