Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman intends to take personal control of the situation in Odesa region if Mikheil Saakashvili resigns from the post of governor of the region.
Groysman announced this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"As the prime minister of Ukraine, I am currently most concerned about the situation in Odesa region. Under the current legislation, a competition for the post of governor will continue for at least one month if the president accepts the resignation of the governor of Odesa region. On my part, I would like to assure Odesa residents that the situation in the region will be under my personal control while the region remains without a governor," he wrote.
According to Groysman, Saakashvili has the right to resign and the prime minister does not intend to criticize or defend him.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Saakashvili decided to resign on Monday.
