Yanukovych Defense Team: Russia Has Not Rejected Cross-Examination Of Yanukovych Via Videoconference

Former President Viktor Yanukovych's defense team has denied claims that Russia has refused to allow a Ukrainian court to cross-examine him via videoconference.

Lawyer Ihor Fedorenko announced this to Ukrainian News.

"Only one court in Rostov has said that there is no technical possibility, the procedure is continuing in other courts. There are no grounds to say that there has been a final rejection," he said.

Earlier, media reports claimed that the Sovetsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don (Russia) has refused to cross-examine Yanukovych via videoconference.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Ministry of Justice sent to Russia a second request to interrogate Yanukovych on August 16 because some documents were missing in the first request.

In May, the Sviatoshynskyi District Court of Kyiv decided to cross-examine Yanukovych via video conference in the case against five former Berkut riot police officers accused of shooting 48 Euromaidan activists on Instytutska Street in Kyiv.

The Ministry of Justice sent to the first request to Russia in June.
