Verkhovna Rada Chairperson Andriy Parubiy has instructed the parliamentary committee for rules and organization of the work of the Parliament to consider a motion from the Prosecutor General's Office to authorize criminal prosecution of Member of Parliament Vadim Novinsky from the faction of the Opposition Bloc.

Andriy Parubiy announced this on his page in Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"I have just received a motion from the Prosecutor General's Office to authorize criminal prosecution of Member of Parliament Vadim Novinsky. As usually, I immediately sent it to the parliamentary committee," he wrote.

Andriy Parubiy also posted a photo of the motion signed by Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko.

The staff of the Verkhovna Rada registered the motion at 12.53 p.m. on Friday.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko has asked the parliament authorize criminal prosecution of Member of Parliament Vadim Novinsky.

The Prosecutor General's Office suspects Novinsky of colluding with former president Viktor Yanukovych, former interior affairs minister Vitalii Zakharchenko, and former Kyiv police chief Valerii Koriak to organize the kidnapping of Archbishop Oleksandr (Drabinko), a personal assistant to the late Metropolitan Volodymyr of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Moscow Patriarchate.

The crime that Novinsky is suspected of committing is punishable under Section 2 of Article 146 (unlawful imprisonment or kidnapping) and Section 1 of Article 365 (abuse of power or authority) of the Criminal Code.
