President Petro Poroshenko notes that the demobilisation of the 6th wave of the mobilised servicemen is over.

Ukrainian News Agency learned this from a statement made by the presidential press service.

The Head of State has adopted a report from Defence Minister Stepan Poltorak and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Viktor Muzhenko on the completion of the process of transfer to the reserve of servicemen as part of the 6th wave of demobilisation under a correspondent Decree.

The 6th wave of demobilisation has finished save those servicemen who are undergoing treatment or in respect of whom an official investigation is being carried out.

The 6th wave must be through before November is out, the President recalled.

Over the last two years, mobilisation has fulfilled the most important role in securing the nation’s defensive capacity, he stressed.

Only contract military and volunteers are staying on the frontlines; properly trained and drilled, inter alia, with the participation of foreign partners.

As of the beginning of the year, Poroshenko underscored, 60,000 plus contract military have entered the Armed Forces, the system of award of contracts, the work of military enlistment offices and training centres has been improved.

He also recalled the errand to enable brigade commanders to man their units and to encourage for army service.

All this was made possible thanks to the ‘Minsk accords’, Poroshenko emphasised, which gave time to train and prepare the Armed Forces.

In his turn, Muzhenko said that 90,000 personnel were accepted for contract service through 2014 to 2016.

Poltorak noted that out of 60,000 contract staff 12,000 first served in the army under mobilisation and then stayed to serve with a contract.

Pursuant to the President’s errand, the Minister added, all military of 6th wave of mobilisation who were wounded in the performance of duty are now undergoing full medical treatment and receiving care, and will be transferred to the reserve upon completion.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Poroshenko announced the demobilisation of the 6th wave of the mobilised servicemen on September 26.
