Valeria Hontareva, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, discussed with the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, the shareholder of the Kyiv-based Pravex-Bank, the situation in Ukraine's banking sector. The press service of the National Bank of Ukraine announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports. On Wednesday, National Bank Governor Valeria Hontareva met with shareholders of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, which is the end beneficiary of Pravex-Bank. Participating in the meeting were Flavio Gianetti, Ezio Salvai, Gianfranco Pizzutto, and Pravex-Bank board chairperson Taras Kyrychenko. The meeting participants discussed the macroeconomic situation in Ukraine, the current situation in the banking sector of the country, developments of the reform of the financial sector of the country. The parties emphasized the importance of enhancement of the protection of rights of creditors in Ukraine and renewal of crediting of Ukrainian economy. They noted it is a good time to develop the banking business in Ukraine. As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in 2014 there were talks between Intesa Sanpaolo and Group DF on purchase of Pravex-Bank. Pravex-Bank registered as a public joint-stock company is controlled by Intesa Sanpaolo (Italy). The financial institution reported loss of UAH 798.516 million in 2015. The bank reported loss of UAH 55 million in the first half of 2016. According to the data of the central bank of Ukraine, as of July 1 the bank occupied the 28th position in terms of the size of its assets (UAH 4.978 billion) among 101 operating Ukrainian commercial banks.
