Ukraine expects the United Nations Organization to be more proactive in countering Russian aggression.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this in a statement marking the 71st anniversary of the creation of the United Nations Organization, Ukrainian News reports.
According to the statement, Ukraine confirms its commitment to the principles of the modern world order that is enshrined in the charter of the United Nations Organization, particularly development of friendly and good-neighborly relations among nations on the basis of the rule of international law.
In addition, according to the statement, Ukraine's vision of the United Nations Organization as a key element of the modern world security architecture remains unchanged.
According to the statement, on its part, the United Nations Organization system, particularly the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), continue to play an important role in supporting the course of socio-economic reforms in Ukraine, including supporting sustainable development and the fight against HIV/AIDS, strengthening the role of local communities, ensuring energy efficiency, and combating climate change.
The statement also noted that the total amount of assistance that United Nations Organization's agencies provided to Ukraine in 2015, including humanitarian assistance, is estimated at over USD 154 million.
The United Nations Organization's agencies planned to spend nearly USD 238 million on projects in Ukraine and supporting restoration of the eastern part of the country In 2016.
The United Nations Organization has officially been in existence since October 24, 1945. By that day, the organization's charter had been ratified by the United Kingdom, China, the Soviet Union, the United States, France, and the majority of the other signatory states.
The United Nations Organization Day is marked on October 24 every year.
