Poroshenko Names Ex-Economy Minister Danylyshyn, Chairman Of Petro Poroshenko Bloc Cherkasy Chapter Furman As Members Of NBU Council

President Petro Poroshenko has appointed Bohdan Danylyshyn and Vasyl Furman as members of the Council of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) on his quota.

Ukrainian News Agency learned this from Decree 470/2016.

Bohdan Mykhailovych Danylyshyn is appointed for seven years and Vasyl Mykolayovych Furman for six years.

The decree comes into force from the moment of its publication.

Danylyshyn graduated from Ternopil State Pedagogical Institute in 1982, completed his postgraduate studies (National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) in specialty Economics in 1991 and doctoral studies (National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) in Economics of Regions, Development of Production Forces in 1997.

He was chairman of the Council for Studying Production Forces at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

In 1997, he was awarded a Doctor of Science, Economics degree, became a professor in 2003 and a corresponding member of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2004.

Since 2009 he has been a Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

At the age of 32, he became one of the youngest Doctors of Economics and at age of 44 the youngest Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Through December 2007 to March 2010, he served as the Minister of Economy at the Yuliya Tymoshenko-led government.

In August 2010, the Prosecutor-General’s Office (PGO) put him on the wanted list, and in November of the same year Danylyshyn applied for political asylum in the Czech Republic.

In 2014, the former economy minister returned to Ukraine.

Vasyl Furman was born on December 2, 1973 in the village of Shestakove, Katerynopil District, Cherkasy region.

In 1991, he entered Kyiv National Economic University, which he graduated from with honours.

In his fifth year of study he was working at a bank.

He started his career in 1995 as a specialist at the analytical department of Vidrodzhennia Bank, and a year later as a lead economist at Prominvestbank.

In 2001, he became the Chief Executive Officer at Veksel insurance company (a subsidiary of Prominvestbank).

After the bankruptcy of the insurance company, he switched UBI insurance company the as chairman of the supervisory board.

In August 2011, he was elected as the chairman of the non-government organisation Our House – Shevchenko Land and set himself up as nonparty.

In 2012, he was nominated to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for the UDAR party.

In 2014, he was running for parliament in constituency No.199 in Cherkasy Region for the Petro Poroshenko Bloc, and was the chairman of the party’s Cherkasy chapter.

Furman authored more than 40 scholarly works.

He became the second after Volodymyr Matviyenko rector of Kyiv Institute of Banking Business, opened at the initiative of Prominvestbank in 1997.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the tenure of the members of the NBU Council expired on September 10, 2015.

According to law, the NBU Council is formed by Parliament and the President - four members each.

The NBU Governor is a member of the Council by virtue of their position.

In July, the Rada appointed four members on its quota.
