Russia Refuses To Transfer Ukrainian Film Director Sentsov To Ukraine

Russia, Ukraine, prison, Sentsov, film director, Oleh Sentsov

Russia has refused to transfer Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov, sentenced by a Russian court to 20 years in prison, to Ukraine.

Deputy Minister of Justice Serhii Petukhov announced this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

He also posted the RF Justice Ministry's response of October 7 to the Ukrainian Justice Ministry's request for the transfer of Sentsov.

The RF Justice Ministry supposes that the transfer of Sentsov is impossible because Russia forced him into RF citizenship as a resident of the annexed Crimea.

So, Russia treats him as its national and refuses to transfer him to Ukraine in pursuance of the Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson calls on Russian authorities to immediately release Sentsov and Crimean activist Oleksandr Kolchenko.

The Supreme Court of Russia on June 1 refused to reconsider Sentsov's sentence to 20 years in a maximum security penal colony and Kolchenko's sentence to 10 years of deprivation of freedom.
