Chairman of the Board of Directors of Group DF Dmytro Firtash says the Naftogaz of Ukraine national joint stock company purchases natural gas in Europe at unreasonably high price.
Dmytro Firtash gave the position in an interview with the RBK-Ukraine outlet, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Why are we buying natural gas in Europe at a price, which is higher by nearly USD 80? The price of natural gas in Eurpoe is close to USD 140 per 1,000 cubic meters, and Europeans are surprised with the price we pay, they do not understand our scheme. They look at me and ask why we are always asking money from them for pumping and are paying USD 220-240 in the end. I will tell what is happening. This is the cut. One day all this will be exposed. And this is going to be a big problem. Because when people understand they the rates [of utility services] were increased for them and that was cheating there will be a disaster," said Firtash.
He says people do not understand this now, but the understanding will come to them at the most unsuitable for the government moment.
"We all want to see enterprises operate. If there is an option to take natural gas for USD 140 in the Russian market, I will take, because I will become stronger. Russia does not care who buys for USD 140. It matters that Ukraine pays over USD 200 in the end. Well, they are laughing," said Furtash.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in the first nine months of 2016, Ukraine decreased importation of natural gas almost twice or by 6,161.3 million cubic meters to 6,298.7 million cubic meters year-on-year.
The Naftogaz of Ukraine national joint stock company predicts that the average weighted price of imported natural gas together with expenses for its transportation to the Ukrainian borders will make in 2016 USD 185 per 1,000 cubic meters.
Natural gas imports from Russia were suspended from November 25, 2015.
