The Ministry for the Occupied Territories has reached agreement with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on cooperation in solving humanitarian problems.
The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Minister for the Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons Vadym Chernysh and the UN Refugees Agency’s representative Pablo Mateu have signed a memorandum of cooperation in solving humanitarian problems and protecting and assisting primarily the most vulnerable categories of internally displaced persons," the statement said.
In particular, the two sides agreed to work on improving the national legislation to protect the rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and improving coordination among central and local executive agencies, local self-governments, and international organizations regarding IDPs, as well as to hold consultations on rehabilitation of the regions affected by the conflict.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the UNHCR said in September that granting internally displaced persons the right to vote in local elections would facilitate their integration into the new community.
