Ukraine Calls On Council Of Europe To React To Detention Of Ukrainian Journalist Suschenko In Russia

Ukraine has called on the Council of Europe to react to the detention of Roman Suschenko, a journalist with the national news agency Ukrinform, in Russia.

The Permanent Representation of Ukraine to the Council of Europe announced this on Twitter, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

“Russia is thirsty for more political prisoners. We call on Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights and Council of Europe Commissioner for Media Freedom to react,” it reads.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Information Policy are clarifying the circumstances of Suschenko’s detention in Russia.

Ukrinform describes Suschenko’s detention in Russia as a provocation.

Suschenko’s Russian lawyer Mark Feygin on Monday morning was demanding to see Suschenko, who is reported by the Russian media to be kept in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention facility.
