President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has urged President of Latvia Raimonds Vejonis to facilitate return to Ukraine of EUR 50 million of former officials of Ukraine confiscated by the government of Latvia.

The press service of President Petro Poroshenko announced this in a statement citing their meeting in New York, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"[President of Ukraine] Petro Poroshenko addressed Raimonds Vejonis with a request to facilitate the investigation by the Ukrainian law enforcement bodies into the cases of former Ukrainian leadership and the return of money confiscated by the Latvian Government," reads the statement.

The two Presidents also agreed to enhance cooperation at the international level and within the international organizations.

President Poroshenko thanked Latvia for consistently supporting Ukraine in the provision of the visa-free regime and the policy of sanctions against Russia due its aggression of Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine sees opportunities to return to Ukraine EUR 50 million of former officials of Ukraine frozen on banking accounts in Latvia and then confiscated by the government of Latvia.
