Finance Minister: Next Tranche From IMF Requires Pension Reform And Law On Circulation Of Farmland

Finance Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Danyliuk says the next tranche from the International Monetary Fund required a pension reform and adoption of laws on the circulation of farmland.

The minister announced this live on the Inter television channel on September 18, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The minister noted that the rules of the farmland market had yet to be elaborated. He said the adoption of the laws would be vitally important for the development of the farming sector of Ukraine.

As for the pension reform he said the government was in charge of elaboration of the reform. He said it was premature to speak about higher retirement age.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, media released information saying the International Monetary Fund insists on a pension reform in Ukraine for obtaining another tranche.

The requirements for the pension reform, according to media, include gradual growth in retirement age, introduction of a unified principle of pensions without any preferences to certain professions (except for militaries), extension of the base for contributions to the social insurance system, introduction of fair tax regime for pensions.

On September 14, the International Monetary Fund has adopted a decision to allocate USD 1 billion for Ukraine as the third tranche within the Extended Fund Facility Program.

Initially it was planned that the third tranche will make USD 1.7 billion and it was supposed to be allocated to Ukraine in 2015.

The Ukrainian authorities announced then that the International Monetary Fund would adopt a decision on allocation of the third tranche in June 2016.

For Ukraine's failure to meet all conditions the International Monetary Fund cut the third tranche from USD 1.7 billion to USD 1 billion.
