European Commission Vice President / European Commissioner for the Euro and Social Dialogue Valdis Dombrovskis does not rule out allocation of the second tranche of the macroeconomic assistance to Ukraine in the size of EUR 600 million by the end of 2016.

European Commission Vice President Dombrovskis gave the position at a meeting with Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"We, from the side of the European Union, are also ready to provide the second tranche of the financial assistance to Ukraine of EUR 600 million if those modalities we spoke before are executed. If this is done, the tranche can be provided this year," Dombrovskis said.

European Commission Vice President Dombrovskis said the European Union would further help Ukraine stabilize the situation in Donbas and restore the sovereignty and the territorial integrity.

Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman voiced hope that the Verkhovna Rada would adopt required resolutions for obtaining the assistance.

During a briefing later in the day Prime Minister Groysman specified the Verkhovna Rada should adopt a law on the National Commission for State Regulation of the Electric Power and Public Utility Services Sectors and regulate the trade restrictions imposed by Ukraine to meet the Association Agreement with the European Union.

"The question of adoption of the law on independent regulator on the market of utility services. This is the first law on the National Commission for State Regulation of the Electric Power and Public Utility Services Sectors. It is in the parliament already and I hope that on Thursday (September 22) it will be adopted. The second question addresses trade restrictions imposed by Ukraine and it is necessary to make sure they correlate with the Association Agreement. There are problems linked with the fact that some laws adopted by the Rada have signs of violations and this needs correction," Groysman said.

He voiced hope that the question would be settled in the near future.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the International Monetary Fund has adopted a decision to allocate USD 1 billion for Ukraine as the third tranche within the Extended Fund Facility Program.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development called on the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to adopt a law on the National Commission for State Regulation of the Electric Power and Public Utility Services Sectors.
