Foreign Affairs Ministry Informs Russia About Arbitration For Violation Of Its Obligations Within UN Convention On Sea Law

The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ukraine has informed the Russian Federation on Wednesday about the arbitration following violation of its obligations within the framework of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has said this in a statement, the Ukrainian News Agency reports.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President Petro Poroshenko has urged Foreign Affairs Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin to inform the Russian Federation on Wednesday about the arbitration following violation of its obligations within the framework of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The President of Ukraine noted that the appeal is filed in view of Russia's violation of the international law, aggression against Ukraine, annexation of Crimea, violation of Ukraine's right to natural resources in the water areas of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

Klimkin said Ukraine intended to file an appeal against Russia for violation of its obligations within the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea before September 19.
