Russia Imposes Embargo On Salt Import From November

Russia has added salt to the list of food products to which applies the ban on supply from abroad starting November 1.

Ukrainian News Agency learned this from RF Government Resolution 897 of September 10.

It alters RF Government Resolution 778 of August 7, 2014.

The list of sanctioned goods, prohibited for import, has been extended with “Salt (including edible and denaturated salt) and pure sodium chlorine, dissolved or undissolved in water, with or without addition of antiblocking agents or agents ensuring free-running properties: sea water."

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) in January 2015 prohibited entry of edible salt produced by Artyomsol.

An official reason was incompliance of edible salt produced by Artyomsol SE with the demands to content of foreign matter, iodine and organoleptic indicators.

In May 2016, the restriction was lifted and Artyomsol resumed supplies.

Except Ukraine, the main suppliers of salt to Russia are Belarus, Kazakhstan, Turkey, the Netherlands, Denmark and Switzerland.
