Ukraine Protests Against Russian Duma Elections In Crimea

Crimea, elections

Ukraine demands that the elections to the Russian State Duma be not held on the territory of the Crimea annexed by Russia.

Mariana Betsa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, announced this on 112 Channel, Ukrainian News reports.

"Today we have expressed one more time our resolute protest to the state-occupant on the matter of holding the elections on temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine - the AR of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol," she said.

Mariana Betsa emphasized that the holding of elections on temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine in the premises of diplomatic and consular premises of Russia goes in conflict with the international law and the laws of Ukraine.

Sviatoslav Tseholko, the press secretary for the President of Ukraine, wrote in his microblog on Twitter that President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko instructed Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin to inform Moscow that Russia cannot hold elections on the territory of Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News reported, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said the elections to the State Duma of Russia set for September 18 are illegitimate.
