The Consulate General of Ukraine in Wroclaw has called for a prompt response by Polish law enforcement officers to another incident, as a result of which, according to media and social media, two Ukrainians were injured. This is stated in the diplomatic mission's statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"We are forced to state that recently in Poland there have been more and more cases of violence and aggression, the victims of which are Ukrainian citizens. Each such case requires a thorough investigation and proper legal assessment," the Consulate emphasizes.
It is also noted that the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha has already instructed the Consulate General to urgently take the necessary response measures. The diplomatic mission has already sent an official request to the competent bodies of the National Police of the Republic of Poland and is waiting for official information.
"If the circumstances are confirmed, we expect a comprehensive, objective and prompt investigation, the establishment of the motives for the crime and the bringing of the perpetrators to justice in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Poland. Any manifestations of violence, xenophobia or hatred are unacceptable and should have no place in a democratic society," the Consulate General stressed.
At the same time, the diplomatic mission called on Ukrainians who may have suffered from this incident or have information about it to contact the Consulate General of Ukraine in Wroclaw, as this will allow them to provide the necessary consular assistance and maintain interaction with the competent authorities.
The incident occurred on Sunday, July 26, at approximately 6:30 pm on Okulitskogo Street in Wroclaw (Poland): three men beat a Ukrainian couple because they heard their accent.
It was reported that the girl suffered serious injuries as a result of the attack, doctors put stitches on her neck; she and her boyfriend are suspected of having concussions.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, relations between Ukraine and Poland have worsened after Polish President Karol Nawrocki announced the deprivation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle due to the decision to name one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine after the Heroes of the UPA [Ukrainian Insurgent Army].
