The administration of US President Donald Trump has informed members of Congress that it will not spend the remaining USD 400 million in aid approved for Ukraine until fiscal year 2029, despite an acute shortage of weapons needed to repel russian missile attacks.

It was reported by Reuters.

According to the publication’s source, the US Department of Defense sent a letter to lawmakers outlining its spending plan. Democrats and some of Trump’s Republican colleagues have criticized the Pentagon for the delay in providing aid to Kyiv, which was supported by members of both parties last year.

Two months after the letter was sent, the funds have still not been disbursed or even allocated through contracts, the source said. Meanwhile, Congress has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of funding.

Zelenskyy is expected to meet with Trump at the White House on Tuesday, where he will continue to press for the provision of urgently needed air defense systems and the conclusion of an agreement with the US on drones, according to a source familiar with the plans.

After that meeting, he is expected to travel to the US Capitol to meet with all 100 senators. The House of Representatives is out of Washington due to the summer recess.

Two sources reported that members of Congress are dissatisfied with the Pentagon’s timeline, which they consider to be extremely slow for an ongoing conflict. According to the delivery schedule outlined in the letter, funds will be allocated during fiscal year 2026, which ends on September 30, and the final delivery of all aid is scheduled for the year ending September 30, 2029.

Trump’s second term ends on January 20, 2029.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Trump previously stated that neither the People’s Republic of China nor the russian federation is involved in supplying weapons to the Islamic Republic of Iran. He also assured that the United States does not supply weapons to Ukraine, as it sells them only to NATO allies.
