On the night of July 27–28, russia was attacked by drones heading toward moscow and the moscow oblast. Due to the threat posed by the drones, temporary restrictions were imposed on operations at several key airports in the russian capital. It was reported by russian media and local authorities.
According to moscow mayor Sergey Sobyanin, air defense forces reportedly shot down a total of 81 drones. Initially, the official reported that 12 targets had been neutralized; later, he reported an additional 21; and after 5:00 a.m., he announced that another 40 drones had been destroyed.
Due to the attacks, Rosaviatsia temporarily suspended arrivals and departures at three moscow airports: Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky.
Local Telegram channels and social media posted footage of drones flying overhead and smoke in the moscow oblast. According to unconfirmed reports from public sources, the targets of the attack may have been a recycling plant in Chekhov, near moscow, as well as Wildberries warehouses in the village of Koledino.
Russian authorities traditionally do not report on damage or consequences on the ground.
Meanwhile, as the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, an intensification of Ukrainian strikes on Wildberries facilities in russia could place an additional burden on russia’s already overloaded air defense systems and is likely to cause increasing inconvenience to russians who use this platform.
On July 24, Ukrainian drones attacked a Wildberries warehouse and the “Utkina Zavod” logistics park in the Leningrad Oblast. A massive fire broke out at both facilities following the strikes.
