The Security Service of Ukraine’s Military Counterintelligence Unit has detained another FSB agent in the Odesa Region. The suspect was coordinating missile and drone attacks by the aggressor state, the russian federation, on fuel and energy infrastructure in the south of Ukraine. This is stated in a report by the SSU.
The investigation revealed that the suspect’s primary tasks included locating and transmitting the coordinates of gas stations, as well as the locations of Ukrzaliznytsia freight trains and Defense Forces fuel tankers.
“SSU officers caught the perpetrator red-handed as he was installing a GPS tracker on a military fuel tanker to use it to guide an enemy attack in real time,” the security service reported.
According to the case file, a local unemployed man recruited by the FSB was responsible for guiding russian shelling. He came to the russians’ attention while searching for “easy” money on Telegram channels.
After being recruited remotely, the agent received instructions from a handler in russia on how to identify “suitable targets,” purchase GPS trackers, and install them on the targets.
“By carrying out precision strikes on fuel tankers, freight trains, and local gas stations, the enemy planned to disrupt supply lines to the front and destabilize the internal situation in the south of Ukraine,” the SSU stated.
During a search at the scene of the suspect’s arrest, investigators found a GPS tracker that he was supposed to activate on a military fuel tanker. They also seized a smartphone from the suspect containing evidence of his collaboration with the enemy.
Investigators from the Security Service informed the agent that he is suspected of treason committed under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The suspect is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the SSU detained three enemy agents who were registering Starlink accounts for the occupiers.
