At the request of the Ministry of Defense, the Defense Procurement Agency (DOT) purchased the first 2,000 women’s body armor vests for UAH 47 million. It was reported by the Ministry of Defense, according to the Ukrainian News agency.
"Female service members of the combat units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have received body armor designed with the female anatomy in mind for the first time. In accordance with a directive from the Ministry of Defense, the Defense Procurement Agency (DOT) purchased the first batch of such personal protective equipment this year for UAH 47 million,” the statement reads.
The first purchase consists of 2,000 body armor vests in the basic configuration 1-5.
In addition to the standard components of the body armor, the set includes a shock-absorbing and climate-regulating insert—a design feature that helps: improve the fit of the body armor; reduce pressure in the frontal area; and provide additional ventilation during use.
The body armor is made of ceramic-composite materials, offers enhanced protection, and features the MM-14 camouflage pattern.
The Ministry of Defense notes that as the number of women in the Armed Forces increases, so does the need for protective gear adapted to the female anatomy.
These body armor vests fit the body better; provide adequate protection; do not restrict movement; and reduce the risk of injury during combat operations.
The Ministry also notes that this is the first procurement of body armor for female service members.
Once the vests are in use, the Agency, in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense and military units, will collect feedback from female users to evaluate their practical experience, identify potential areas for product improvement, and incorporate these findings into the planning of future procurements.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in October 2025, the Ministry of Defense purchased floating body armor for the first time.
In December 2023, the Ministry of Defense unveiled the first certified body armor for female service members.
