The first half was an extremely cautious fight. Both teams relied on a reliable defensive game and avoided risks. The Spaniards had more possession and tried to create chances near the opponent's goal, while the Argentines did not have a single shot on target or beyond it until the break.

At the end of the match, Argentina tried to organize a final assault, but the created chances were not enough to save the game.
