The US announced that it had completed its eighth consecutive night of strikes against Iran, as two American service members were killed in Jordan and another is missing following an Iranian attack.
It was reported by Reuters.
US Central Command stated that the airstrikes began at 10:00 p.m. GMT on Saturday at the direction of President Donald Trump. It is reported that strikes were carried out against Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities.
“The strikes are designed to further degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces who launched attacks against American service members in Jordan last night,” the statement reads.
On Sunday morning, Iranian state television, citing a statement from the military, reported that Iran had carried out a drone attack targeting US military facilities and equipment at Camp Al-Adiri camp and at Ali Al-Salem Air Base. Both bases were targeted as part of a series of Iranian attacks against US and allied facilities in the Persian Gulf that have been ongoing since last week.
US officials reported that two people were killed on Friday, and a third US service member is listed as missing. With this announcement, the number of US service members killed since the start of the war has risen to 16, with more than 420 wounded.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hagseth posted on X: “Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve.”
In a written statement published on the official social media pages of Iran’s Supreme Leader and in Iranian state media, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei stated that the US actions demonstrated that Trump’s signature is “utterly worthless and devoid of credibility.” Khamenei’s whereabouts remain a mystery.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the administration of US President Donald Trump informed Israel of plans to deploy dozens of additional American refueling aircraft to the country ahead of a possible expansion of military operations against Iran.
Earlier, Iran stated that it no longer considers the memorandum of understanding with the US to be in effect. This statement was made by the country’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, after the US resumed its blockade of Iranian ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
