The administration of US President Donald Trump has informed Israel of plans to send dozens of additional US tanker planes to the country on the eve of a possible expansion of the military operation against Iran.
This is reported by the Axios portal, citing American and Israeli sources.
According to the publication, Trump may give a corresponding order in the coming days. Currently, approximately 30 US tanker planes are stationed at the Israeli air bases of Ben-Gurion and Ramon. According to Israeli officials, the United States intends to send several dozen more such aircraft to Israel in the coming days, bringing their number to the level that was at the beginning of the war.
Analysts interviewed by Axios reporters believe that the demonstrative increase in military presence is designed to increase pressure on Tehran to force it to open the Strait of Hormuz and agree to American demands regarding its nuclear program.
The publication recalls that the US military has been striking Iranian facilities for five consecutive days. According to one of the American officials, at least seven bridges were destroyed in the area of the city of Bandar Abbas, the center of operations of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Axios, the US is considering the possibility of moving to a larger operation, which could include strikes on critical Iranian infrastructure and its nuclear facilities.
Meanwhile, as Ukrainian News Agency reported, US President Donald Trump is so pleased with the current World Cup that he wants the US to host another similar tournament. But this time without Canada and Mexico.
