The tanker Nordic Zenith (IMO 9588469), chartered by the American oil company ExxonMobil, was attacked by two drones near Novorossiysk (Krasnodar Krai of the aggressor country of russia).
This was reported by Reuters with reference to a statement by the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC).
The CPC stated that the tanker Nordic Zenith was attacked and damaged by two drones. It was heading to the CPC terminal located near Novorossiysk.
As a result of the drone attack, a fire broke out on the vessel, which was extinguished after some time. Nearby vessels took on board 13 members of the Nordic Zenith crew. The remaining nine crew members decided to remain on the tanker.
The CPC added that the tanker Nordic Zenith had been removed from the loading schedule and was no longer suitable for mooring or loading operations.
According to available information, the tanker Nordic Zenith was chartered by the American company ExxonMobil.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on the night of today, July 17, the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine hit 12 vessels of the russian "shadow fleet" in the Black Sea, including one tanker. Judging by the map of hit targets published by the USF, one vessel was hit near Novorossiysk.
According to the commander of the USF, Robert "Madyar" Brovdi, since July 6, the Ukrainian military has hit almost 159 vessels in the Azov and Black Seas. Most of them are tankers of the "shadow fleet".
As a reminder, on July 8, it became known that the tanker Yasa Polaris, chartered by the American energy company Chevron, was attacked in the Black Sea. It was also hit near Novorossiysk.
