The European Union has announced the expansion of sanctions against the aggressor country of russia for deadly air strikes on Kyiv.
This is according to a press release published on the EU Council website on Friday, July 17, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"The Council today decided to impose restrictive measures against one individual and five legal entities. These entities are part of the russian military-industrial complex, in particular, they are engaged in the production of unmanned aerial vehicles," the press release says.
All five legal entities are part of the ABS Electro group of companies, which develops and manufactures electronic and radio-electronic components necessary for the production of attack UAVs, in particular the Shahed and Geran.
In addition, some of the companies are engaged in the production of automated control systems for the energy sector, which is a significant source of income for the russian federation.
The sanctions list also includes the chairman of the board of ABS Electro, Irina Kharisova. She is also a director of several companies in the group.
The sanctions were imposed in connection with russia's ongoing and escalating aggression against Ukraine, in particular, with the recent strikes on Kyiv in early July, which were aimed at civilian infrastructure.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 16, Reuters reported, citing sources, that the European Union failed to agree on the 21st package of sanctions against russia, and the discussion was postponed to the end of this month.
The Financial Times reported that Greece has slowed down the adoption of the 21st package of sanctions against the russian federation due to fears that the restrictions will affect the Greek shipping company Dynagas, which is engaged in the transportation of russian liquefied gas.
