As a result of repatriation efforts, 501 bodies of the deceased have been returned to Ukraine; according to the russian side, these may be those of Ukrainian servicemen.
It was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War on July 16.
Moving forward, law enforcement investigators, together with representatives from forensic institutions, will take the necessary steps to identify the repatriated remains.
The Coordination Headquarters also thanked the International Committee of the Red Cross for its assistance and support in carrying out the repatriation efforts.
As a reminder, in June, the aggressor country russia handed over 522 bodies to the Ukrainian side, which, according to the russian side, belong to Ukrainian citizens, including military personnel. In May, russia, the aggressor country, handed over 375 bodies of Ukrainian military personnel and civilians who were considered prisoners of war.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Internal Affairs previously stated that russia is deliberately complicating the process of identifying the returned bodies of deceased Ukrainians. In particular, during repatriations, russia handed over the bodies of russian servicemen mixed in with those of Ukrainians.
