The Prime Minister is appointed by the Verkhovna Rada upon the President’s nomination. The President submits a candidate for the position of Prime Minister upon the proposal of a coalition of parliamentary factions in the Verkhovna Rada or a parliamentary faction comprising a majority of people’s deputies—in the current Rada, this is the “Servant of the People” faction.

On July 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed that the Verkhovna Rada appoint Serhiy Koretskyi, chairman of the board of the national joint-stock company “Naftogaz of Ukraine,” to the post of Prime Minister.
