President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has submitted Serhii Koretskyi’s nomination for the position of Prime Minister of Ukraine to the Verkhovna Rada. The relevant documents have already been submitted to parliament.
Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk has announced this.
“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has received a proposal from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to appoint Serhii Koretskyi as Prime Minister of Ukraine. Parliament will consider it in the near future in accordance with established procedure,” Stefanchuk said.
Serhii Koretskyi currently heads Naftogaz of Ukraine. His candidacy is being considered as part of a large-scale government reshuffle initiated by the President.
The day before, the current head of government, Yuliia Svyrydenko, who had served as prime minister since July 2025, resigned. According to sources, she may be offered another government position; in particular, political circles had previously discussed her possible appointment as Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States.
According to media reports, the government plans to finalize the formation of the new Cabinet of Ministers in the coming days. In addition to the appointment of a new prime minister, personnel changes and the reorganization of a number of ministries are expected, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, regional development, the economy, agricultural policy, and education.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 14, the Verkhovna Rada accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, who had headed the government since July 17, 2025.
In accordance with the Constitution, the resignation of the prime minister results in the resignation of the entire Cabinet of Ministers.
The Prime Minister is appointed by the Verkhovna Rada upon the President’s nomination.
The President submits a candidate for the position of Prime Minister upon the recommendation of a coalition of parliamentary factions in the Verkhovna Rada or a parliamentary faction comprising a majority of MPs—in the current Rada, this is the Servant of the People faction.
