European Union countries were unable to agree on the 21st package of sanctions against russia—the aggressor nation—for its full-scale war against Ukraine. Reuters reported this, citing its own sources.

According to an unnamed European diplomat, EU representatives agreed to leave the price cap on russian oil unchanged at the current level of USD 44.1 per barrel until July 23, while discussions on a new sanctions package continue.

Earlier this week, the EU’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, stated that EU countries have not yet reached an agreement on the 21st package of sanctions against russia.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said that EU countries have not yet decided on the proposed ban on maritime transport and the tightening of restrictions on russian liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The EU initially proposed this latest package of sanctions against russia in June. The package targets russian banks and cryptocurrency networks, as well as drone manufacturers, oil traders, and oil refineries.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 15, the European Union imposed sanctions on shipping companies owned by two russian oil refining companies.

As a reminder, in April, Reuters reported that China had demanded that the European Union remove Chinese companies from the sanctions list that had been included there for cooperating with russia.
