The German defense contractor Rheinmetall has delivered the first batch of 155-mm artillery shells to Ukraine, manufactured at its new plant in Unterlüs (Lower Saxony). This is stated in a press release on the company’s website.
"Until now, deliveries had come from other sites within the Rheinmetall production network. This first delivery from Unterlüß to Ukraine comprises a low five-figure number of projectiles, in addition to propellant charges from other sites," the statement reads.
Rheinmetall emphasized that these are RH1412 shells—the group’s latest development. They can be used with various 15-mm artillery systems and are characterized by a long range and high effectiveness.
The company added that more than half of the order has already been delivered. The remaining shells and propellant charges are to be delivered by the end of 2026.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 7, Rheinmetall announced that it had received a large order to produce extended-range artillery shells for Ukraine. The order was placed by a NATO member country.
As a reminder, in August 2025, Rheinmetall announced the opening of a new artillery shell production plant in Unterlüs.
