Satellite imagery and media investigations have documented large-scale deforestation in the border regions of the aggressor country, the russian federation, near Finland. In these areas, the russian military is hastily constructing new facilities—hangars for military equipment, weapons depots, and barracks. It was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD).
“This construction is the Kremlin’s direct response to Finland’s accession to NATO. Despite statements about ‘no territorial claims,’ Moscow is deploying additional military capabilities to intimidate Northern Europe,” the Center noted.
The CCD emphasized that the clearing of forests for new bases indicates russia’s long-term plans to militarize the region. The occupiers are creating infrastructure to accommodate new units of the Leningrad Military District, attempting to create constant tension along NATO countries’ borders.
"Military construction near Finland’s borders shatters any myths about the Russian Federation’s ‘peacefulness’ and proves that the Kremlin views European countries as potential targets for military pressure," the Center concluded.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Finland has established one of the most robust civil defense systems in Europe, which, in the event of a military threat, allows for the rapid evacuation of a significant portion of the capital’s residents. The extensive network of underground facilities in Helsinki is designed to handle various emergency situations, including the possible use of nuclear weapons.
